Description:
Generación Solar S.p.A., a special purpose company and Chilean subsidiary of US PV energy solutions developer SunEdison Inc., was awarded the 30-year concession to build and operate the 72.8MW María Elena merchant solar power plant 15km northeast of the city of María Elena in northern Chile's Antofagasta region (II). In December 2014 María Elena was interconnected to the SING grid after a construction period of fewer than six months. The energy generated is sold on the spot market and injected directly into the country's northern SING grid at the Crucero-Lagunas stretch.
