Colombia awards US$545mn PPP for La Dorada-Chiriguaná rail corridor

The consortium Estructura Plural Línea Férrea Central won the 10-year PPP contract to rebuild, rehabilitate and operate the Colombian La Dorada-Chiriguaná rail corridor.

The consortium is formed by Ortiz Construcciones y Proyectos, CI Colombian Natural Resources, and Transferport. Its financial bid for the contract amounted to 2.3tn pesos (US$545mn).

The contract includes construction, improvement, maintenance and operation of the 526km corridor between La Dorada in Caldas department and Chiriguaná in Cesar, as well as to upgrade, operate and maintain the rolling stock.

In 2024, the La Dorada-Chiriguaná corridor transported over 225,000t of cargo, the highest volume in the past five years. In the long term, the corridor is expected to handle 2.8Mt/y of freight.
