Peru power watch: Financing, rural electrification, hydro project bill

The board of Orygen Perú, formerly known as Enel Generación Perú, approved the hiring of Macroinvest to review the terms of a possible revolving credit line agreement.

The operation would be with Niagara Energy, Compañía Veracruz, Chinango, Energética Monzón and SL Energy, Orygen said in a local regulatory filing.

Additional information was not disclosed.

Rural electrification

The energy and mines ministry published a proposed modification to the regulation of the rural electrification framework law.

The change aims to fast-track the execution of projects by streamlining the allocation of subsidies from the social power compensation fund (FOSE), among other measures, and further promote private investment in such infrastructure.

Hydro project bill

Lawmakers of the Perú Libre party introduced a bill to congress to declare of national interest and public need the development of the Pakitzapango hydroelectric project in Junín region.

The initiative's authors argue that the 1,379MW, US$3bn project would not only help cover local demand but also have the potential to export electricity to neighboring Brazil.
