São Paulo state to invest US$50mn in water infra

São Paulo state will invest up to 300mn reais (US$52.5mn) in water infrastructure in the Alto Tietê area, surrounding Mogi das Cruzes city.

"Most of the funds, approximately 228mn reais, come from the IntegraTietê program, its Renasce Tietê axis, operated by [state water regulator] SP Águas with resources from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)," a press release said.

"It will be used for the construction of more than 52,000m of trunk collectors and sewage collection networks in the municipality of Mogi das Cruzes, with the tender scheduled for the third quarter of this year," it added.

Cities like Suzano, Mairiporã, Biritiba Mirim and Salesópolis will also receive investments.

“We must look at sanitation in an integrated way, considering water supply services, sewage collection and treatment, in addition to stormwater drainage. We will carry out these works and design, together with the municipality, the operation and maintenance of the integrated system through the Universaliza SP program,” Natália Resende, state secretary of environment, infrastructure, and logistics, said in the release.
