The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) and the Federal Roads and Bridges (CAPUFE) will allocate a combined investment of 34.438 billion pesos in 2025 for routine maintenance work—through the Bachetón program—and periodic maintenance of the Federal Highway Network. For the entire administration, the cumulative investment will amount to 219.68 billion pesos.
Under the direction of Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, the SICT has set the following goals for this year:
- Routine maintenance of 48,653 kilometers;
- The periodic maintenance of 9,472 kilometers;
- The rehabilitation of 10 highways and 9 bridges.
CAPUFE and the General Directorates of Technical Services, Roads, and Conservation are already working on maintenance and rehabilitation of vehicular bridges.
During the first phase of the Bachetón Program, 45,903 kilometers of roads were rehabilitated and 289,694 potholes were repaired. In addition, regrading, weeding, and cleaning drainage works were carried out, all of which are essential to ensuring safe and efficient traffic.
These efforts involved approximately 330 crews, comprising 2,373 workers, supported by 2,344 units of specialized machinery, such as roll formers, compactors, pavers, and excavators.
Regarding the Periodic Conservation Program, the SICT will complete the rehabilitation of 668 kilometers this month, of which 617 kilometers have already been rehabilitated, representing 90% progress. Weeds have also been cleared across 263,417,788 square meters.
To strengthen these efforts, the SICT will acquire 20 repaving trains and specialized machinery that will expand operational capacity in the states of Aguascalientes, Baja California Sur, Campeche, Chihuahua, Colima, Guerrero, Jalisco, Michoacán, Morelos, Oaxaca, the eastern part of the State of Mexico, and Veracruz.
The goal is to incorporate advanced equipment that reduces costs and streamlines maintenance processes, including milling machines, compactors, pavers, finishing machines, and equipment for laying asphalt micro-layers.
With these actions, SICT and CAPUFE seek to improve the mobility of people and goods, as well as reduce the operating costs of long-haul transportation.
