Description: The project involves the expansion of the refinery to increase its processing capacity from the current 80,000b/d. It will require 3,500 workers during construction, 60% of them hired directly and 40% subcontracted. The modernization will include 14 new units, including crude distillation, vacuum distillation, coking, hydrocracker, saturated gas, water treatment, energy generation and UDC, in order to improve the product value and the production system. Similarly, fuel oil will not be produced anymore. Reficar (Refinería de Cartagena S.A) is reponsible for the project. The company is formed by Ecopetrol and Andean Chemical, a Ecopetrol subsidary.
