Transpetro recorded significant growth in ship-to-ship oil and oil product transshipment operations in 2024, consolidating its presence in national maritime logistics. With a 70% share of the Brazilian market for this type of transport, the company carried out 959 operations throughout last year, an increase of 9.2% compared to the 878 registered in 2023. The growth was especially driven by the North and Northeast regions, which saw a significant increase in movement, reflecting the growing demand for efficient logistics solutions.
Ship-to-ship is a type of operation in which one ship docks next to another to transfer oil and oil products, occupying only one berth and making room for other vessels to dock. This reduces the queue of ships, making the port more agile and efficient and optimizing costs. Transpetro currently offers ship-to-ship operations in 13 locations in Brazil, allowing economies of scale by enabling the movement of products in larger vessels. This solution optimizes the logistics flow and reduces transportation costs by up to 30%.
For Transpetro's Executive Manager of Business Development and Commercialization, Gustavo Rosindo, the company's expansion in these operations is a reflection of the strategic plan designed for the coming years.
“Transpetro invests in new business opportunities, strategic partnerships and client diversification to strengthen its market position. The advancement of operations in the North and Northeast demonstrates our ability to adapt and our commitment to logistics efficiency, allowing the company to continue growing in a sustainable manner,” he highlights.
North and Northeast
To keep up with the expansion of oil production in Brazil, the company has been expanding its service offerings in different locations. In the North, the increase was 32% in 2024 when compared to the previous year, going from 247 to 325 operations. The highlights were the operations carried out in Itacoatiara (AM) and Manaus (AM), driven by the logistics infrastructure and strategic location in the Amazon.
In the Northeast, Ceará saw an increase from two to 14 operations, while São Luís increased from four to 17 operations, reinforcing these hubs as essential for the flow of national production. In Maranhão, Transpetro will be able to further increase its efficiency and service by expanding ship-to-ship operations to another berth in the Port of Itaqui. Last February, the company participated in a pilot operation that will allow another vessel to dock at the port and carry out two simultaneous ship-to-ship operations.
Gustavo Rosindo adds that Transpetro has been dedicated to optimizing processes to ensure even safer, more efficient and sustainable operations, following strict standards that ensure compliance with the best international practices in the sector.
“This commitment reinforces Transpetro’s position as a reference in national maritime logistics, meeting market demands with excellence and responsibility and consolidating the company as a leader in ship-to-ship operations in Brazil,” says Rosindo.
